Making sense of the tuition process

This application process will help determine what type of tuition assistance your family is eligible for:  from Head Start, the Great Start Readiness Program, and KC Ready 4s.

Complete Application

The first step towards receiving tuition assistance is the application. If this is your first child to be submitted for eligibility, you can fill out the online application.

If you have previously submitted an online application through ChildPlus for any of your children, you will have to use the fillable PDF form to submit your application.

Attach Required Documents

Applications must include;

  • Proof of child’s birth date
  • Family residency
  • All sources of household income

Please review the application cover sheet for specific documents that are accepted.

Please provide all income documentation that applies to your household (from anyone living in your household who is related to the child, and who contributes financially to support the child). Specific types of documentation are listed on the cover sheet of the application.

Submit Application & Documents

Instructions on how to submit applications is on the cover sheet of the applications listed in step 1.

First Round of Assistance
Applications received by April 24th are considered in the first round of tuition assistance and will receive a response in late-May.

First-come, First-served
Applications received on or after April 25th are on a first-come, first-served basis and those applicants will receive a response as funding becomes available.

Tuition Assistance after the beginning of the school year is awarded on a prorated basis, depending on a child’s start date and the 33-week schedule established by the pre-k program.

Receive Eligibility Letter

Once you have received your eligibility letter from KC Ready 4s either notify us of your selected program, or, if you do not have a selected program, contact one of the providers on our Program Finder, or learn more about how to select a program.

Select Your Program

Once you have selected a program and determined that there is an opening, please work directly with the program to enroll your child, determine a payment schedule for your portion of the tuition (if any).

In addition, some programs may have enrollment, processing, administrative fees, which KC Ready 4s does not cover.

Kalamazoo County Pre-K is a collaborative and inclusive effort between Head Start, Great Start Readiness Program, and Kalamazoo County Ready 4s to provide high quality pre-kindergarten experiences that prepares children and families for life-long success.
